Springtime is Clean up Time!
March is a good time to get out and clean up the yard after winter snow has melted.
Remove mulch from around perennials and shrubs. This lets the sun warm the soil and
start new growth. Cut back any top growth not removed last fall. This is really
important for the perennial grasses. Apply a granular time-release fertilizer to
all plants and shrubs (Fertilome Start & Grow).
Ponds also need attention in the Spring. Pumps (if pulled out in the fall) need
to go back. All dead pond plants should be cut back and fertilized. Muck and
plant residue can be cleaned out. Fish should once again be fed using a "Spring"
food. And most important, the biological water treatments must be put in. Visit our

Watering Your Trees and Shrubs
Newly planted trees and shrubs should be watered at the time
of planting. In addition, during the first growing season, they
should be watered at least once a week, more often during
the height of the summer. However, care should be taken not
to over water, as this may result in oxygen deprivation. Regular
deep soakings are better than frequent light waterings.
